But after reading here, I found FontBook and discovered that the 3 fonts for which I was seeing popups were legitimately not installed yet. So I've installed them and all seems fine so far. KiltedTim is correct of course but the obvious solution is to go ahead and download the fonts MS is looking for. Notify me of new comments via email. However, the fonts were unfamiliar to me, and I had not been paying attention, so I had not realised that it is the same fonts that are being requested, and downloaded, again and again. Please Apple tell me what is going on! Sorry - yes and to stakiti I had to download via fontbook.
Either press the "Download" button in upper-right corner of the preview pane or right-click the font to display the context menu and select "Download". Do they show up in Font Book?

Unfortunately, this does not seem to be permanent solution for me: What I found is that all of the missing fonts were asian language characters for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Sorry this didn't help. Ranger Ric Ranger Ric. I have the same issue and I have Excel upgraded to the latest version. Since the problem didn't happen until the Sierra upgrade, it would seem that Apple removed the font and they need to address the issue, not someone else.
How satisfied are you with this response? Recently, since upgrading to macOS Sierra, I have noticed that many times when I launch Word and, in some cases, some other applications such as ReadKitit asks me to download some fonts.
But after reading here, I found FontBook and discovered that the 3 fonts for which I was seeing popups were legitimately not installed yet. Because it has attracted low-quality or spam answers that had to be removed, posting an answer now requires 10 reputation on this site the association bonus does not count.

No problems until after the OS Sierra upgrade. I download the fonts and now I just need to wait and see if that's cured the problem for at least these two fonts. Select "All fonts" in the sidebar and search for them using the search box in the upper-right corner of the window. You are commenting using your Facebook account.
